The Life of a Great Breeder
It’s 8 weeks of love, work, and total devotion — the kind that only other breeders truly understand!
We start by sleeping next to mama and her babies for the first few weeks, watching every wiggle and making sure everyone is warm, safe, and thriving. Mama’s meals, water, and even her poop get monitored daily (yep, glamorous life right here) — all to be sure she’s healthy and producing plenty of milk for her little ones. And of course, she gets spoiled with all the love and care she deserves! 💛
From day 3–16 we do Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) to help build stronger, more confident puppies. Every single pup is weighed daily those first few weeks, then weekly after that, and supplemented if needed to keep everyone growing just right.
We watch puppy poop like hawks — it tells us a lot about their health! Then there’s the cleaning… and more cleaning… and did we mention cleaning? 😂 Because keeping things spotless is key to healthy puppies.
As they grow, the real fun begins — enrichment activities, new sounds, textures, toys, and short adventures to help them build confidence. Puppies hear vacuums, music, doorbells, meet new people, and explore new spaces. It’s all about preparing them for the big world waiting beyond our doors.
Add in weekly baths, blowouts, nail trims, body checks, and snuggles (lots and lots of snuggles) — and you’ve got a pretty full day before you even get to the “other stuff.”
Behind the scenes, there’s deworming, vet visits, medications, website updates, social media posts, photos, emails, and phone calls — all while getting to know each pup’s personality and finding the perfect family for every single one.
It’s a lot. It’s constant. But it’s worth every sleepless night and every bit of puppy poop cleanup. Because when you breed with heart, you live and breathe what you do ❤️
We’ll miss our Summer Storm litter — they’ve been such a joy! Now it’s time for a quick nap, another round of cleaning, and to prepare for Lulu’s upcoming babies in about 12 days.
Here at Mountain Home Doodles, you get 100% from us! One day, one puppy, and one loving family at a time 🐾
